Vehicles in German Town Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers reported they were contacted by a man who found a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored fluid

Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Officers say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.

The substance had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they added.

Officers then discovered multiple other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Police report initial examinations suggest the substance was probably human blood.

"At present there remains no indication as to its source; officials are presently not informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they added.

Local authorities said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for details.

A senior representative commented the attack made him stunned and required to be solved quickly.

"This event hits the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, referring to the murder of nine victims by a assailant targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
