Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in influence within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of heroes who will separate from the central cast to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing started the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his own means, invading the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the team access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can expect learning which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
